"Innate Musicality and Artistic Sensibilities"
Many people know Ian Wurfl as a drummer, while others know him as a percussionist and some know him as a conductor and arranger. In whatever capacity you see Ian, you quickly realize that at the heart of his purpose and passion is his desire for others to feel joy when he shares his musical gifts.
Ian’s work as a performer has already placed him in diverse stylistic musical contexts. He has played in concert with the likes of John Fogerty, Jacob Collier, Farzad Farzin, Chaka Khan, Steve Vai, Jason Charles Miller (Godhead) and Pepe Aguilar. He has also performed in tribute performances for Songwriter Hall of Fame inductees Lamont Dozier and Bill Withers. Ian recently conducted two large pop orchestras featuring the arrangements of Patrice Rushen, as well as some of his own.
Originally from Ashland, Oregon, a town that values music education, Ian came to Los Angeles when he was accepted into the cutting edge Popular Music Program at the University of Southern California. His teachers and mentors have included such industry notables as Ndugu Chancler, Kevin Ricard, Aaron Serfaty, Patrice Rushen, Alphonso Johnson, Pete Korpela, Peter Erskine and Dr. Terry Longshore. These mentors have had an immeasurable impact on Ian both as a musician and as a human being.
Having received his Bachelors of Music degree in Popular Music Performance, Ian is fueled by his well-rounded musical training, his exposure to contemporary musical styles, his drive and focus, and his innate musicality and artistic sensibilities.
